Biography

Masato Harada was born on July 3, 1949 in Numazu, Shizuoka, Japan. He was a director and writer, known for Chronicle of My Mother (2011), The Last Samurai (2003) and Totsunyûseyo! 'Asama Sansô' jiken (2002). He was married to Mizuho Fukuda. He died on December 8, 2025 in Tokyo, Japan.

Born in 1949, He has worked as a film critic for several Japanese magazines and newspapers and was considered one of Japan's most severe social critics before becoming a film director.

Was mentored by legendary American director Howard Hawks.
