Lotus Hannon

Biography

  • Lotus is a director / writer passionate about creating bold, character driven work, exploring themes of survival, power and sexuality. Her award-winning short films have screened internationally and she's directed drama for BBC1 and Channel 4. Her short film "Unseen" (2019) screened at London Film Festival and was acquired by ARTE for broadcast. She's just completed a BFI short film "Re-Live" (2022), a powerful story of a woman overcoming and healing from the trauma of sexual assault.

Lotus is developing her directorial debut, a gripping thriller, "On The Line" with Christine Alderson and Katie Hodgkin at Ipso Facto Productions.

A graduate from East 15 Acting School, Lotus wrote, cast, directed and co-produced her first short film Man of Me Dreams! (1999). Festival success led to work in prime-time TV comedy and light entertainment. Lotus won The Script Factory Development Scheme with her first original feature "Render", prompting a wider exploration of genre with films such as "The Expiration" (2014), an evocative and sensual short inspired by John Donn'e poem.

Lotus' haunting screenplay "Undertow" was selected for the BFI Network Live Script Read at Encounters Film Festival. She was also a participant of the prestigious WFTV Mentoring Scheme, Creative England Talent Module and she won a coveted place on the BBC New Directors Scheme.

Lotus is a former board member of Directors UK, a member of Cinesisters and BAFTA Connect and is represented by Mark Casarotto at Casarotto, Ramsey and Associates.
