Biography

Roland Hanna was born on February 10, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan, USA. He was an actor, known for Malcolm X (1992), Jungle Fever (1991) and Mo' Better Blues (1990). He was married to Ramona Woodard. He died on November 13, 2002 in Hackensack, New Jersey, USA.

Hanna was knighted in 1970 by the government of Liberia, in recognition of benefit concerts he had performed in the African nation. Thereafter, he insisted on being billed as "Sir Roland Hanna."

Considered one of the leading exponents of the so-called Detroit school of jazz piano.

Recorded new accompaniments to Charlie Parker's solos for Clint Eastwood's "Bird".
