Biography

  • Harry Halm was born on January 17, 1901 in Berlin, Germany. He was an actor and writer, known for Die verschwundene Frau (1929), Im Weissen Rössl (1952) and Sein Scheidungsgrund (1931). He died on November 22, 1980 in Munich, Bavaria, West Germany.

Trivia

  • Son of director Alfred Halm.
  • Trained under Eduard von Winterstein and Hermann Vallentin and on stage as an actor from 1919. Played romantic leading roles in films of the 1920's, often opposite Lillian Harvey. Found roles hard to come by during the national socialist era, ostensibly for reasons 'pertaining to race'. Moved to Austria, where he operated a bar called 'Top Hat' (in deference to the 1935 Astaire/Rogers musical) and later became a tobacconist.
  • The actor Harry Halm was the son of the theater manager and film director Alfred Halm.
  • Because of the hereditary influences he launched an actor career in the film business in the 20's.
  • At the beginning of the 30's he appeared in the talkies "Hokuspokus" (1930), "Der wahre Jakob" (1931) and "Ein toller Fall" (1932), after that he disappeared completely from the screen and only turned up again in 1948 for the movie "Hin und her".
