Biography

Paul Hallam has written or co-written numerous screenplays including A Kind of English (Ruhul Amin), Caught Looking (Constantine Giannaris), Nighthawks, Strip Jack Naked (Ron Peck) and Young Soul Rebels (Isaac Julien). He has written a play, The Dish, performed in London, New York and Toronto. A BBC Radio 4 adaptation of The Dish was broadcast in August 1998.

His first book, The Book of Sodom, is published by Verso. A long excerpt from the book appeared in The Postmodern Bible Reader (Blackwell, 2001). He is currently (2008)working on a second book, on sex and time.

His Briefplay series on prostitute/client relations is appearing in various forms - performance, video and publication. He is also working on Bookmobile, a multifaceted art/design research project.

If You Look at It Long Enough - an essay on pornography for The Journal of Homosexuality is also published in hard and soft cover by Harrington Park Press (2004). For the Asking, an essay on the 'promise'of prostitution, was published in The Journal of Sexuality and Culture in 2006.

Soho, a film by Ron Peck and Paul Hallam and King's Cross, a film by Kate Boyd and Paul Hallam appear on the Second Run DVD of Strip Jack Naked (2005). Nighthawks Revisited - a new film directed by Paula Nightingale and presented by Matt Lucas (Little Britain)appears on the Nighthawks DVD (2005). DVD details: www.secondrundvd.com

He was Writer in Residence at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, University of the Arts, London (1996/7) and continues to teach there and at Kingston University.

He currently (2008) divides his work and time between Istanbul and London. He is working on new performance and film projects in Istanbul.
