At the same time he worked as Reagan's Secretary of State, he advised Sir Laurence Olivier in his portrayal of General Douglas MacArthur during the filming of Inchon (1981). Haig was a lieutenant under MacArthur's command.

Due to his notorious actions on 3/31/1981, "Alexander Haig Syndrome" is a term used in government, anytime a person who is not next-in-line position to act or succeed a government head acts like one.

After the events of 3/30/1981, he personally apologized to both then-Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tip O'Neill and then-President Pro Tempore of the Senate, Strom Thurmond for acting as President and not acknowledging that they were in positions ahead of him (in the Presidential Line-of-Succession).
