Brother of Luc Haesaerts.

As an artist, Haesaerts practiced various disciplines. In addition to his own artistic work, he also wrote essays and directed documentaries about art.

In 1952 he produced an experimental documentary entitled; "Four Belgian painters at work", thus creating a portrait of the painters Edgard Tytgat, Albert Dasnoy, Jean Brusselmans and Paul Delvaux. Under the camera's eye, the artists present a large glass panel representing one of the four seasons that evokes a stage in human life.

In the essay "Flandre" he wrote with his brother Luc Haesaerts (1899-1962) about Flemish art since 1880. The essay appeared in 1931 in Éditions des Chroniques du Jour and was awarded the Picard Prize.

Paul Haesaerts was a multi talented Belgian artist. Especially as a documentary filmmaker he was well known internationally.

Together with his brother Luc, he founded the art group "Les Compagnons de l'Art" in 1937, to which not only Léon Spilliaert, but also many other well-known painters joined.

His short film Visit to Picasso (1949) was awarded at the New York Film Festival in 1950 and won the BAFTA award for best documentary in 1951.

As an architect, together with his brother Luc, he designed the "French Ponds" of the Municipal Park of Boom (Flanders) (1928-1929).

His work as a carpet designer was displayed in the house that Victor Bourgeois designed for Dr. Boll during the opening days of the Weissenhofsiedlung in Stuttgart in 1927.

As an artist he worked as an architect, filmmaker, etcher, painter, screenwriter, carpet designer and illustrator.
