Mother of actor and stage director Marcus Strahl.

In 2008, in recognition of her many years of outstanding service to theatre, film and art, the artist was appointed an honorary member of the European Cultural Workshop (EKW) in Berlin at the suggestion of artistic director Hans Pischner and chamber singer Heiko Reissig.

She recorded in 2016 the duet "Dieses Glücksgefühl" with the Italian tenor Rudi Giovannini to mark her 70th stage anniversary.

Haas grew up at Schloss Schönbrunn, where her mother was a restaurateur.

Her famous movie role was that of Josepha Vogelhuber in the 1960 film The White Horse Inn (Im weißen Rößl) opposite Peter Alexander.

Waltraut Haas was an Austrian actress and singer.

In the summer of 1946, she played Hermia in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream in Linz. From 1948 onward, she performed at the Renaissance Theater and other Viennese theaters. In 1949, she appeared alongside Peter Alexander in Ludwig Schmidseder's operetta: Abschiedswalzer (Farewell Waltz) at the Vienna Bürgertheater.

Waltraut Haas made her stage debut in Linz but was soon won over to the big screen. She achieved fame and recognition already through her first movie, the cult classic Der Hofrat Geiger (1947), in which she played Mariandl, the illegitimate daughter of a woman who runs an inn in the picturesque Wachau valley. In 1961, Haas would play Mariandl's single mother in a remake entitled Mariandl.

After 60 movies, mainly comedies and musicals, she stopped making films around 1970. Thereafter, she also appeared on television.

At her mother's request, she first attended a home economics school before graduating from the Conservatory for Performing Arts in Vienna and also taking private acting lessons with Burgtheater actress Julia Janssen.
