Fragile-looking German character actress, on stage in Nuremberg from 1907. She was for nine years an ensemble member of the Munich Volkstheater (1930-39). Haagen came to films while in her early fifties, reaching the peak of her popularity during the 1950's as spinster aunts, quirky grandmothers and eccentric dowagers.

She avoided with her wonderful acting that her roles dilapidated to chichés and formed them to demanding characters.

Following the Second World War she appeared in several rubble films (German: Trümmerfilm), such as "In jenen Tagen" (1947).

"Heidi" (1965), and the movies round Immenhof (1955 - 1957) marked the height of her career.

When she went to the Nürnberger Stadttheater in 1912, her career got into visible shape.

The film business came very late into the life of Margarete Haagen.

The actress Margarete Haagen began her training for acting with private lessons by different actors from Nuremberg and made her theater debut in 1907.

During the 1950s she often appeared in heimatfilm and costume films.

She appeared on different stages in the following years and was engaged in Bremen, Stuttgart and Munich, where she belonged to the ensemble from 1930 to 1939.

After the war she became besides the actress Annie Rosar the funny old woman as such in many other movies.
