Ernst Günther was born on June 3, 1933 in Karlskrona, Blekinge län, Sweden. He was an actor and director, known for The Man from Majorca (1984), Fanny and Alexander (1982) and Metamorphosis (1976). He was married to Tina Johansson. He died on December 8, 1999 in Glemmingebro, Skåne län, Sweden.

Performed the voice of the Cookie Monster in the Swedish version of Sesame Street.

Suffers from diabetes.

An avid reader all his life, Günther often wandered away with a book during long and tedious breaks when shooting, sat down in a corner and read up until the moment cameras rolled.
