Pascal Gélinas(I)

In 1973, after shooting several documentaries, Pascal Gélinas directed his first feature-length fiction film, "Montréal Blues", a collective creation conceived with the theater company "Le Grand Cirque Ordinaire", shot in Super 16 mm. In 1983, he co-directed with Richard Boutet the feature-length documentary "La Turlute des Années Dures" on the Great Depression in French Canada, which won the Critics' Award in Quebec, as well as the Silver Sesterce and the Ecumenical Award at the International Film Festival in Nyon, Switzerland. From 1984 to 2009, first on the program "Science-Réalité", then on the program "Découverte" on Radio-Canada, Pascal produced more than 300 popular science reports for television, including three features in the Canadian Far North, Costa Rica, and Ukraine. In addition to a dozen awards, Pascal won the Gémeaux Award for Best Report in 1998 and 2000, presented by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television. Alongside his television work, starting in the summer of 2004, Pascal directed "Le porteur d’eau", a documentary he shot in Indonesia, which won several awards and was screened in some 20 countries. The film was broadcast on Radio-Canada, RDI, TV 5 Monde, ARTE, and NHK. In 2008, Pascal produced "Terres à la dérive", a 35-minute documentary on the future of agriculture in Quebec, which he wrote, shot, and directed. In addition to being presented on Radio-Canada's "La Semaine verte" and on TV5 Monde, the film won the 2008 Un regard sur le monde award at the 40th Maritime, Exploration and Environment Film Festival in Toulon, France. Pascal Gélinas made a documentary about his father, playwright Gratien Gélinas, entitled "Gratien Gélinas, un géant aux pieds d'argile" (Gratien Gélinas, a giant with feet of clay), which was broadcast on Radio-Canada and ARTV on the centenary of his birth.
