Biography

  • Mixer to the Oscar nominated Nibbles (2003) Roger Guérin started his career early on while tampering with his brother's band sound system (1970). After his studies at the Institute of Audio Research in New York City he went from quality control for a high speed duplication plant (1975-77) to P.A. companies (1977-80). Naturally his interest grew rapidly into the recording industry and after several platinum records (1980-89), his appetite grew stronger for more diverse challenges. While doing albums, commercials, some music to- pix he was making creative use of MIDI, SMPTE, Synclavier, modifying and combining layers of synths, patches, drum machines, he was already doing what would be later known as "sound designing". Doing sound for the screen gave him instant gratification, armed with his new tools he foresaw that the film and television technology was finally outgrowing its dinosaur era, so he shifted to mix-to-pix, doing commercials with clients such as Toyota, Amnesty International, British Airways, Honda, Kodak, MacDonald, Volkswagen, etc. (1989-92). After that new ground had to be explored, so his interest naturally went to documentaries War of 1812 (1999), Polar Bear Safari (2000), from local to international TV series, Watatatow (1990), The Worst Witch (1998), _"Tales From the Neverending Story" (2001)_, Undressed (1999), from short to MOW, At the Quinte Hotel (2002), _Straight From the Suburbs (1998)_, Alone We Stand (2002), _Wishmaster 4: The Prophecy Fulfilled (2002)_ and _Student Seduction (2003)_ . Considering his impressive contributions he has made to records, large scale multimedia, international fairs, films and television sound, the natural next step is already on its way with his growing interest in feature films.
