The fundraiser, "Appeal II: For Continued Freedom in the Arts", was raised at a rented auditorium in Geary near Fillmore in San Francisco, California with Jefferson Airplane (Marty Balin, Paul Kantner, Spencer Dryden, Jack Casady, Grace Slick, Jorma Kaukonen, Skip Spence, Joey Covington); The Great Society; Big Brother and the Holding Company (Peter Albin, Janis Joplin, James Gurley, Sam Andrew, David Getz, Ben Nieves, Cathy Richardson, Chuck Jones, Nick Gravenites, Kathi McDonald, Dave Shallock, Mike Finnegan and Tom Finch); Quicksilver Messenger Service; The Charlatans; John Handy Quintet; Mystery Trend; Gentlemen's Band and the Grateful Dead (formerly the Warlocks) using their new name for the first time. Wes Wilson was the poster designer. R. G. Davis was artistic director.
