Biography

Hrafn Gunnlaugsson was born on June 17, 1948 in Reykjavik, Iceland. He is a director and writer, known for The Sacred Mound (1993), When the Raven Flies (1984) and The White Viking (1991).

Swedish news paper Göteborgsposten named him the third most influential Icelander in Sweden, after legendary medieval historian Snorri Sturluson and Nobel prize winner Halldor Laxness.

Brother of Tinna Gunnlaugsdóttir.

Has three children: Playwright and poet Kristján, actress Tinna and young Sól.

Gunnlaugsson, Iceland's Prime Minister Davíd Oddsson and famous writer Thórarinn Eldjárn (son of ex-president Kristján Eldjárn) have been best friends since high school. Together they hosted one of Iceland's most popular radio-shows ever (called Matthildur) and he has even directed a TV movie based on the Prime Minister's script.

We are like cats, you know? All Icelanders goes different ways. You can not put cats together and make a flock of cats march. But you can do it to dogs. So Icelanders are like cats. Every Icelander goes his own way.
