Mini bio

  • With over 40 years' experience in practical, physical, pyrotechnic and miniature effects for films, television shows, pop videos and commercials, Alex has an almost unrivalled wealth of experience across the genres. From war films to food shows, historical dramas to documentaries, specialty set design and construction, gimbals and other rigs, there's pretty much nothing that I haven't catered for.

Pursuing a passion for film effects from a very early age, from choosing relevant subjects a school to UK exam standards, a foundation year at St Martin's School of Art followed by 3 years at BPCAD to HND diploma in photography, film and television I first worked as an assistant film editor and later assistant dubbing editor for a year, which gave me an excellent grounding for what was to come next - finally a job in special effects. Many films, TV shows, commercials and live action projects later, finally making the grade to full SFX Supervisor in 2004, the stage was set for a company start-up.

With some serious titles under my belt, the company Arcadia SFX Ltd, was established in 2008.

With facilities conveniently located just west of London's heartland, close to Pinewood and Shepperton Studios, my company has been providing physical, pyrotechnic and model effects solutions for over 15 years, from $100 million epics to more modestly budgeted straight-to-dvd adventures, from "Rambo" to "Tremors 7", I've gained a wealth of experience in the "maximum bang for buck" approach.

Able to fully service productions across the entire spectrum of film and TV productions, commercials, pop videos and more, with state-of-the-art equipment and experienced BECTU/JISFX graded technicians along with international crews throughout Europe, Jordan, North Africa, Thailand and Yorkshire, nowhere is too far or too close to home!

My company ethos is to ensure your production requirements are fully realised with imagination and flair, ensuring your spend goes where it needs to be - on the screen.
