- German character comedian, on stage from 1900. Ensemble member of Max Reinhardt's Deutsches Theater in 1915. In Vienna from 1923 as director of the Theater in der Josefstadt and occasional author of plays. In silent films from 1916, but only achieved popularity in talking films, often in eccentric comedy roles. Best remembered as the enjoyably obtuse school's inspector in The Punch Bowl (1944).

- His career began in the 10's where he made his film debut but his extreme comical talent was also popular in the sound film era.
- He first appeared in 1900 at the Rudolstadt municipal Theater and moved to Cottbus in 1908.
- In 1911 Gülstorff went to the Schillertheater Berlin and became a member of the ensemble of Max Reinhardt's Deutsches Theater in 1915.
