Biography

Stephen Mark Grynberg, is an American writer, director and producer of narrative and documentary films about redemption, loss and the circuitous paths of the human spirit. His first feature film, Love From Ground Zero, starring Simon Baker, Jacqueline McKenzie, and Pruitt Taylor Vince was the story of three strangers wrestling with loss as they traveled across America with the ashes of a mutual friend. Grynberg then made the documentary film, Past Forward, as part of Envisioning the Future, a multi-media project curated by renowned artist Judy Chicago. Grynberg then shot and directed the feature length documentary, A Life Ascending, about the life of acclaimed mountaineer, Ruedi Beglinger, and his coming to terms with risk and loss in the mountains. The film won 11 international festival awards.

Grynberg is a board member of the Holocaust Museum Los Angeles and is a founding member of the Men's Advisory Council to the Rape Foundation of Los Angeles. He is the creator and founder of the Illuminate Foundation, a non-profit initiative promoting Holocaust remembrance and education through its digital platform, Illuminatethepast org.

Grynberg is from Denver, Colorado and attended the American Film Institute as a director, and has an MBA from Columbia University and a BS in Chemical Engineering from Northwestern University which almost never comes in handy.
