Biography

Edita Gruberova was born on December 23, 1946 in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia [now Slovak Republic]. She was an actress, known for Hänsel und Gretel (1981), Rigoletto (1987) and Die Zauberflöte (1982). She was married to Stefan Klimo. She died on October 18, 2021 in Zurich, Switzerland.

Coloratura soprano who appeared in the world's leading opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, and London's Royal Opera House. She was best known for her association with the Vienna State Opera, where she debuted as the Queen of the Night in Mozart's "The Magic Flute". Her repertoire included Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti, Verdi, and Strauss.
