Biography

Freddie Green was born on March 31, 1911 in Charleston, South Carolina, USA. He was an actor, known for Policy Man (1938), NDR Jazz Workshops (1958) and The Seven Lively Arts (1957). He died on March 1, 1987 in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

Inducted into the Big Band and Jazz Hall of Fame in 2000.

Self-taught jazz guitarist who joined Count Basie's Orchestra in 1937. Green remained with Basie until the latter's death in 1984. He subsequently worked with other groups, including Manhattan Transfer.

Regarded as an excellent time keeper.
