Biography

Aleksandr Gordon was born on December 26, 1931 in Moscow, RSFSR, USSR [now Russia]. He was a director and writer, known for The Killers (1956), The Fight in the Blizzard (1978) and Ransom (1986). He was married to Marina Tarkovskaya. He died on December 7, 2020.

His wife, writer and linguist Marina Tarkovskaya, is the younger sister of filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky. Gordon met her while he was a student at VGIK film school, a classmate of her brother, with whom Gordon collaborated on several student films.

Father of writer, poet, biologist, trapper, and cinematographer Mikhail Tarkovsky (son), and child actress Ekaterina Tarkovskaya [Katya] (daughter), both with wife Marina.

Unlike the common English given name "Gordon", his family name is pronounced with the accent on the last syllable and a long O: "gor-DOAN".
