Richard Goolden was born on February 23, 1895 in London, England, UK. He was an actor, known for It! (1967), David Copperfield (1956) and The History of Mr. Polly (1980). He died on June 18, 1981 in London, England, UK.

Bespectacled English character actor of stage and screen, the son of a barrister. He was educated at Charterhouse and New College, Oxford. He served in the British Army Medical Corps on the Western front during World War I and began acting on stage in 1923. Goolden was a respected interpreter of Shakespearean roles and also had a lengthy career on radio, notably in the titular role of Mr. Chips and as Zaphod Beeblebrox in "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy".

He was awarded the OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) in the 1978 Queen's Birthday Honours List for his services to drama and broadcasting.
