Biography

Richard N. Goodwin was born on December 7, 1931 in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. He was a writer and producer, known for Quiz Show (1994), The Hinge of the World and 1968: A Crack in Time (1978). He was married to Doris Kearns Goodwin and Sandra Gail Leverant. He died on May 20, 2018 in Concord, Massachusetts, USA.

A few years after first wife died, he married fellow writer/historian Doris Kearns Goodwin. They live in Boston and he keeps an office in Maine.

Brilliant law school grad who became the preeminent presidential speechwriter of his generation, first in Kennedy, then Johnson administrations.

Graduated first in his class at both Tufts, then Harvard law school in 1958, then clerked for Supreme Court justice Felix Frankfurter. After varied posts in Congress and then alongside presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson, also worked as speechwriter for candidates Eugene McCarthy, Robert F. Kennedy and Edmund Muskie.
