Biography

  • Felipe González (Sevilla, 1942) was general secretary of the Partido Socialista Obrero Español (PSOE), (Spanish Socialist Workers Party) and president of the Government of Spain between 1982 and 1996. During the Franco dictatorship, Felipe González joins the Socialist Youth, then a clandestine organization, and participates in acts of protest against the regime for which he was arrested in Madrid in 1971. González takes over the general secretarial position in the PSOE in 1974 and after the death of General Franco he obtains his certificate as a member of parliament in the first democratic elections in Spain
