Alexander Goehr(1932-2024)

Alexander Goehr was born on 10 August 1932 in Berlin, Germany. He was a composer, known for BBC Play of the Month (1965), Die Bertinis (1988) and Die Geschwister Oppermann (1983). He was married to Amira Katz, Anthea Staunton and Audrey Baker. He died on 26 August 2024 in Cambridgeshire, England.

He composed music for Kenneth Cavander's translation of Euripides' play, "The Bacchae", at the Mermaid Theatre in London, England with Barrie Ingham, Joss Ackland CBE, John Woodvine, John Wyse, Stephen Moore, Jerry Verno and Josephine Wilson in the cast. Lord Bernard Miles KBE was the director. The crew included David Myerscough-Jones (art direction) and Ariane Gastambide (costumes).

Trivia
Son of conductor Walter Goehr and mother Laelia, a classically trained pianist. He was a leading figure in progressive musical circles and became professor of music at Cambridge University in the 1970s.
