- Expert on Japanese movie history and one of the world's leading authorities on Japanese giant monster movies, such as Godzilla (1954), having written a number of books and numerous articles on the subject. Together with Steve Ryfle, he ha also co-authored the first English language biography and filmography of Japanese Godzilla director Ishirō Honda.
