Biography

Richard Gilliland was born on January 23, 1950 in Fort Worth, Texas, USA. He was an actor, known for Airplane II: The Sequel (1982), Designing Women (1986) and CBS Summer Playhouse (1987). He was married to Jean Smart and Lindsay Harrison. He died on March 18, 2021 in Los Angeles, California, USA.

Met his future wife, Jean Smart, when he guest-starred on her show, Designing Women (1986). Delta Burke arranged for the two to meet.

Father, with Jean Smart, of Connor Douglas Gilliland (b. 25 October 1989) and Forrest (b. July 2008, adopted May 2009).

Attended the Goodman School of Drama in Chicago.

Gilliland had a career on stage in Los Angeles, Chicago and off-Broadway in New York, appearing in productions such as "Amadeus," "Cops," "Beyond Therapy" and "Little Egypt.".
