Biography

Basil Gill was born on March 10, 1877 in Birkenhead, Cheshire, England, UK. He was an actor, known for Chains of Bondage (1916), The Rocks of Valpre (1919) and The Immortal Gentleman (1935). He was married to Margaret von Cavania (actress). He died on April 23, 1955 in Hove, East Sussex, England, UK.

A popular matinée idol, he played romantic leads and character roles in period drama on screen from 1911.

For approx 2 years until May 1894, Basil Gill taught art at The Grammar School, Wallington, U.K. before leaving for a post in Switzerland.

He was an accomplished stage actor and received numerous reviews commenting on the clarity and quality of his voice.

He was a long-time friend of Charles Laughton

After touring the U.S. and Australia, he became a member of Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree's company from 1903 to 1907, appearing almost exclusively in Shakespearean plays.
