Daughter of John Gilbert and Leatrice Joy.
Mother of actors John Fountain and Gideon Fountain.
Granddaughter of John Pringle.
The 32-minute mini-documentary Rediscovering John Gilbert (2010) (2010) features the last on-camera interview with John Gilbert's daughter and biographer, Leatrice Gilbert Fountain (aka Leatrice Joy Gilbert). The short film, directed and produced by Jeffrey Vance along with producing partner Tony Maietta, aired on the Turner Classic Movies cable channel and is available on home video.
Educated at the Westlake School for Girls, the University of California at Berkeley, and Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland.
Was the author of two published books: "Love to the Irish," which was a novel, and "Dark Star," which was a biography of her father.
Served in the Women's Army Corps during World War II.
Her son John Fountain played her father John Gilbert in Sunset (1988).
