- Jean-Claude Germain was born on June 18, 1939 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He was an actor and writer, known for Joyeux Calvaire (1996), L'héritage (1987) and Les hauts et les bas d'la vie d'une diva (1984). He was married to Nicole Leblanc. He died on April 24, 2025 in Magog, Québec, Canada.

- In 1977, he won the Société Saint-Jean-Baptiste's Victor-Morin Prize for his important contribution to Quebec theatre and, in 1993, the Société Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Montréal designated him Patriot of the Year.
- In 1969, the 30-year-old German founded the Théâtre du Même Nom (TMN), an experimental theater where he clearly displayed his desire to move away from the models adopted by the Théâtre du Nouveau Monde (TNM).
- He often said that it was necessary to write plays to feed this new theatre, and that is how he created the dramatic writing section as a professor at the National Theatre School of Canada.
- He was a honorary president of the Montreal Book Fair, which he did from 1990 to 1998.
- He was also made a Knight of the Order of the Pleiade in 2001.
