Tony Gatlif was born on September 10, 1948 in Algiers, Alger, France [now Algeria]. He was a director and writer, known for Vengo (2000), Freedom (2009) and The Crazy Stranger (1997). He died on September 2, 2026 in Arles, Bouches-du-Rhône, France.
