Biography

Stephen Gately was born on March 17, 1976 in Dublin, Ireland. He was an actor, known for Billy Elliot (2000), The Rocky Horror Tribute Show (2006) and Watership Down (1999). He was married to Andrew Cowles. He died on October 10, 2009 in Majorca, Balearic Islands, Spain.

A member of highly successful boy band Boyzone, in 1999 he became the first member of a boy band to "come out" as gay, something which had been regarded as tantamount to commercial suicide for earlier artists because of the marketing towards teenage girls.
