Took an honours degree in physics at University College London, and during the War worked in armaments research. In 1950/51 he was Staff Physicist for the Festival of Britain and he then became Industrial Liaison Officer at the National Physical Laboratory. From the late 1950s, he devoted his time to broadcasting, television, film-making, management consultancy and writing. He was a Past Master of the Worshipful Company of Scientific Instrument Makers, a Member of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, and Honorary Life Member of the London Association of Engineers. Latterly, he lived in the Dordogne in France.
