Stamatis Gardelis is a Greek actor who rose to prominence in the early 1980s and became one of the most recognizable screen idols of his generation. He made his acting debut with a leading role in director Giannis Dalianidis's film Ta tsakalia: Ena koinoniko provlima (1981), a performance that quickly established him with audiences, particularly among younger viewers. During the decade that followed, he starred in a string of commercially successful films that became closely associated with the golden era of Greek popular cinema and the home-video market, including Vasika... kalispera sas (1982), Roda, tsanta kai kopana (1982) and Peraste... filiste... teleiosate! (1986). His popularity transformed him into a pop-culture icon of 1980s Greece, although he later acknowledged that his success in youthful leading-man roles sometimes limited opportunities to pursue different kinds of characters. In subsequent years he focused primarily on theater while making occasional returns to television. He appeared as a contestant on Dancing with the Stars (2010), acted in the television series Mila mou vromika (2009), and later participated in Your Face Sounds Familiar (2013) and the reality series I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! (2023). Throughout a career spanning several decades, Gardelis has remained a familiar figure in Greek entertainment, remembered above all for the films that defined an era of popular Greek cinema.
