Álvaro García(II)

Álvaro García Trujillo was born by chance in Denmark, spent his childhood between Cairo, Bogotá and Santiago de Chile, speaks three languages, but is 100% Colombian. He studied and graduated from the Helvetia School in Bogotá, where, since 1976, and to lose his shyness in class, he began to do theater at the TPM, under the tutelage and training of Jacques Legler, a Swiss teacher and "theater maker" who came to do a short internship at that school in 1969, but stayed in Colombia until his death in 2009. Álvaro remained in that group for 36 years, until 2012, when the last play scored by his Maestro was presented, directed by his son Filip Legler, a successful architect and set designer. That was his only acting school, until he graduated from the University of Antioquia as a Master in Performing Arts in 2019. Álvaro came to professional acting almost by accident, and did his first two scenes in 1990, in the soap opera Ana de Negro. From there he was called to En Cuerpo Ajeno and began the struggle to survive in this profession that seduced him immediately. From then on, and for a few years, Álvaro would try to combine his career in Marketing and Advertising with acting, but the latter won the battle and, since 1998, he decides to dedicate himself exclusively to the Performing Arts. From 2006 to 2010, in international tours and festivals that took them to Brazil, Venezuela, Spain and Germany, he participated with Teatro Petra in Alvaro’s last professional play, playing Tito Andrónico in Mosca, a play written and directed by Fabio Rubiano. The first film in which he acted was La Nave de los Sueños, from 1996, directed by Ciro Durán; a character that he also obtained for being in the right place at the right time, even if it was by accident. He repeated with this director in La Toma de la Embajada and made with Lisandro Duque Los Niños Invisibles and Los Actores del Conflicto. To date, he has participated in 21 productions, and in several he acts in French or English. Álvaro García's career has been solid, constant and discreet. He has the curious "unofficial record" of being the Colombian actor with the highest number of different religious characters (20), starting with a priest in the 1995 series Sabor a Limón. The last two were Father Nicanor in One Hundred Years of Solitude from Dynamo and Netflix, and Father Ignacio in the film Judas (2026) by Andrés Roa. He is an actor appreciated for his supporting characters, versatile and dedicated to his craft, who has starred in several professional and university short films, for pleasure and experience, and two series on regional channels. At the same time as acting, he writes for pleasure and compulsion. He has finished three books of short stories, a novel of a saga of four and two scripts. But he has no urgency to get them published (or produced), no more than a few copies of his first two short stories books, that he published on his own just to hand them out among family and friends. At present (2026), and since 2001, he lives in the countryside, near Bogotá, trying to reduce its carbon quota and empirically recovering small niches of native forest and habitats for wild birds.
