Born in Mexico City, he studied filmmaking at renowned institutions in three countries: the Centro Universitario de Estudios Cinematográficos (CUEC) at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), New York University (NYU), and the International Film and Television School in San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba.
In 2002, he founded the production company Central Films.
