Biography

Leo Garcia is a filmmaker, writer, and producer drawn to stories of desire, danger, identity, and power. Working across narrative cinema, experimental film, and psychological horror, he creates films in which private lives collide with history, violence, and forces beyond individual control.

Garcia wrote and produced Earth or The Monster of Tierra Amarilla, a magical-realist psychological film set in northern New Mexico in 1911. Directed by Patrick Kennelly, the film blends body horror, Hispano history, and bio-ethical unease in a story about bodily autonomy, corrupted medicine, and the violence of power over body and land, exercised in the name of science.

He wrote, produced, and directed his first film, A Rainy Day, which was distributed by Universal Television and screened internationally. He later produced Excess Flesh, a psychological body-horror feature that premiered at SXSW and received theatrical and digital distribution.

His shorter works include the experimental documentary ten minutes is two hours and Hammurabi, films marked by surreal imagery, political tension, and a fascination with bodies, memory, and unstable realities.

Garcia is also the co-founder of Film Maudit 2.0, the Los Angeles festival devoted to cinema that is strange, dangerous, confrontational, and difficult to contain. Shaped by his background in performance, theater, and visual art, his work combines emotional intensity, dark humor, historical unease, and a taste for the forbidden.
