Mini bio

  • Rena Galani was a Greek actress, director and screenwriter whose career encompassed theater and cinema. She studied at the Drama School of the Hellenic Conservatory and became a member of the Greek Actors' Union in 1959. She began her acting career in theater before making her film debut in I Kriti stis floges (1947). During the 1950s, she appeared mainly in films depicting everyday Greek life, while in the 1960s she became a familiar face in social dramas about troubled youth and popular melodramas such as Agapisa kai ponesa (1963) and Eimai mia dystyhismeni (1964). Although she generally played very small supporting roles, she was a prolific presence in Greek cinema, appearing in a total of 78 films and working in almost all of the films starring Nikos Xanthopoulos. Her involvement with Xanthopoulos' films extended beyond acting, as she also directed some of them and wrote their screenplays. Alongside her work behind the camera, Galani had a substantial career in dubbing, providing the voices of various leading actresses of the period in more than 400 films.
