Gary Gabelich was born on August 29, 1940 in San Pedro, California, USA. He was an actor, known for Joyride to Nowhere (1977), White Salt and Sunshine (1973) and Girl in My Life (1973). He died on January 26, 1984 in Long Beach, California, USA.

Had his right hand severed in a drag racing accident in 1972. It was reattached, but his racing career was over.

Performed free falls from 30,000 feet while filming potential astronaut crafts being built by his employer, North American Aviation.

Set the world land speed record of 622.407 miles per hour on October 28, 1970, at the Bonneville Salt Flats.

Was an astronaut trainee.
