- Helmut Förnbacher was born on January 26, 1936 in Basel, Switzerland. He is an actor and director, known for The Amorous Adventures of a Young Postman (1970), Youth (2015) and Schonzeit für Füchse (1966). He has been married to Kristina Nel since 1975.

- Since 1980 he has managed his own theater group, "Helmut Förnbacher Theatre Company", which resides next to Basel Baden train station.
- At one time, he represented the Swiss national junior team in handball.
- In 1974, he became director of the theatre 'Vis à vis' in Basel.
- Trained at the Max-Reinhardt-Seminar in Vienna prior to his theatrical debut in 1955. His first engagements were at the Komödie Basel and at the Schauspielhaus Zürich.
