- Neal L. Fredericks was born in Newport Beach, California. Neal lived all over the world, in Asia and Europe, and was based in Los Angeles, California. As a director of photography (cinematographer), Neal's theatrical feature film debut was Laughing Dead (1998). His breakthrough films were The Blair Witch Project (1999) and Dreamers (1999).

- Died while filming the movie Cross Bones. He was the only casaulty when a small Cessna plane carrying four crew members filiming scenery for the film crashed into the sea surrounding the Dry Tortugas islands of Florida.
- On May 9, 2004, Neal agreed to make his directorial debut with Canterbury Films, Indiana, for their horror film production Devil In The Dark, written and produced by Charles Hopkins. His letter of intent is still with that company. After his death the production was shelved.
