Sister of Ilse Frank, who was later named Ise Gropius and wife of Walter Gropius.

Was orphaned by the age of seventeen.

German actress and dancer. Frank performed as a dancer from 1924, subsequently studying acting under Erwin Piscator. She first first appeared on stage at the Volksbühne Berlin in Schiller's "Die Räuber". In films from 1933, often paired with Heinz Rühmann. After a long break, returned to the screen in 1964 with regular TV appearances, often as guest star in popular crime shows like "Tatort", "Derrick" and "Der Alte".

The actress Ellen Frank had to learn early to stand on her own feet when her parents died within two years when she was only 17.

She changed from dance to acting and made her theater debut in Berlin in the play "Die Räuber", directed by Erwin Piscator.

She was admitted as a dance Elevin at the Stadttheater Hannover by ballet master Max Terpis and toured with a modern dance group through Germany.

She got married with Georg Arm in 1939 and moved to Munich after the birth of her daughter. She nearly stood away from the screen for 15 years and only appeared in a movie again in 1953.

From the 60's to the 80's she normally worked in TV productions.

Her career continued resinous for the time being. She got engagements at different theaters before she took part in movie in 1930 for the first time.
