  • Intense character actor, trained under Albert Steinrück (1914-16). A leading figure of the German expressionist stage of the 1920's. Until 1944, performed regularly with the Deutschen Theater and the Staatstheater Berlin. In films from 1926, often in professorial roles or as barristers, governors and consuls. Critically acclaimed and recipient of many awards, including the Bundesverdienstkreuz (1953) and the Berliner Kunstpreis (1955).
  • After the war he went back to the Renaissance-Theater again where he continued his career. Plays like "Die schmutzigen Hände" by Jean-Paul Sartre demonstrated his acting ability.
  • He died during his holiday in Garmisch-Partenkirschen.
  • The actor Walter Franck began his acting career at the beginning of the 20's. The German theater was in a state of stagnation, new impulses only came from independent groups of young actors. Many of these young actors played unpaid in new plays at the "Junge Bühne" and looked for new forms of expressions. To these actors belonged Walter Franck too. He had a great success as "Grand" in the play "Anarchie in Sillian" (1924) and was praised by the critics.
