Until 1944, performed regularly with the Deutschen Theater and the Staatstheater Berlin. In films from 1926, often in professorial roles or as barristers, governors and consuls. Critically acclaimed and recipient of many awards, including the Bundesverdienstkreuz (1953) and the Berliner Kunstpreis (1955).
