Biography

Peter Foy was born on June 11, 1925 in London, England, UK. He is known for Fantastic Voyage (1966), Lights Out (1946) and The Wiz (1978). He was married to Barbara Foy. He died on February 17, 2005 in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

Children: son Garry, daughter Teresa.

Specialized in making theatrical performers "fly" on stage. He sent Mary Martin, Sandy Duncan, and Cathy Rigby soaring in productions of "Peter Pan". In movies and television, he sent aloft Jack Benny, Lucille Ball, Jerry Lewis, Dean Martin, and Bob Hope. He also worked with Liberace (and his piano!), gymnast Nadia Comaneci, and singer Garth Brooks.

In 1957, he started his own company, which became known as Flying by Foy. In addition to several Broadway productions, he also worked on the opening ceremony of the 2004 Athens Olympics, the Ice Capades, several rock concerts, operas, and ballets.

Early in his career, Foy worked for Kirby's Flying Ballets, the leading theatrical flying-effects company in the UK. In 1950, he supervised the creation and operation of the flying apparatus for a Broadway production of "Peter Pan", with Jean Arthur in the title role and Boris Karloff as Captain Hook.
