Biography

Bill Forsyth was born on July 29, 1946 in Glasgow, Strathclyde, Scotland, UK. He is a director and writer, known for Local Hero (1983), Housekeeping (1987) and Gregory's Girl (1980).

Wrote and directed seven feature films between. 1979-1999, the most recent being Gregory's Two Girls. Has not made any film since.

Won a Stella for Best Screenplay for Gregory's Girl.

He got a Stella for Best Direction of Local Hero in 1984.

And so the passion ultimately fizzles out because of the limitations of the goal; because movies are really not that important. At the very end of the day you're sitting with an audience of four or five hundred people and all they want is to be entertained. You see we're dealing with a medium which really only wants to involve itself in the superficial manipulation of emotions.

I feel insistently misunderstood ... All the films I've made, I've always had a much darker side than most people have perceived.
