Along with his brother, historian Worthington C. Ford (1868 - 1941), founded the Historical Printing Club and began publishing articles on American history that were mostly drawn from material that their father had collected.

Shot and killed by his older brother after refusing to lend him any more money. Malcolm Ford (1862-1902) was a once famous track and field star who ran into personal and financial difficulties after his athletic abilities faded. After shooting his brother Malcolm turned the gun on himself. Before he died, Paul told the attending doctor that he forgave Malcolm and hoped their family would as well. Paul and Malcolm were interned in the same grave at a cemetery in Sleepy Hollow, New York.
