Graham Fletcher

  • Principal dancer with the Royal Ballet of London.
  • Allegra Kent, a ballet dancer with the New York City Ballet, was the one that told him about Pilates.
  • He did a lot of the dance sequences on "The Muppet Show". When Raquel Welsh and Rudolph Nureyev did pas de deuxs, he was in the Muppet costume. When Nureyev mentioned he always wanted to dance with Miss Piggy, Fletcher was in the "ballerina pig" costume.
  • He founded his own dance company, Graham Fletcher's Dance Activate--for which he serves as Artistic Director.
  • On the West End stage, he took over the role of Mr. Mistoffelees in the Broadway musical "Cats".
  • He has taught ballet to gifted children, as part of The Royal Ballet School's Associate Programmes and is director of Leicestershire Arts Dance Activate and Ballet Associates , the first classical ballet training program of its kind in the East Midlands.
  • Of all the work he did on "The Muppet Show," Jim Henson named a character in his honor, Fletcher Bird, who appeared periodically in seasons three and four.
  • At the age of 11 he won a scholarship to The Royal Ballet School and realized his goal of joining The Royal Ballet Company in 1968. In 1979 he became a principal dancer appearing in numerous major roles and working with choreographic greats such as Sir Frederick Ashton, Dame Ninette de Valois, Sir Kenneth MacMillan, Rudolf Nureyev, Jerome Robbins, Gillian Lynne and George Balanchine.
