Janet Flanner was born on March 13, 1892 in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. She was a writer, known for Resurrection (1943), Camera Three (1954) and Gertrude Stein: When This You See, Remember Me (1970). She was married to William Lane Rehm. She died on November 7, 1978 in New York City, New York, USA.

She was Paris correspondent to the New Yorker magazine from 1925 to 1975.

She was awarded the National Book Award Of Arts and Letters in 1966 for her book, "The Paris Journal 1944-1965."

She was awarded the rank of Grande Maître in the French Legion of Honor, the highest civilian honor in France.

She was awarded the Chevalier in the French Legion of Honor in 1947 for locating stolen French art in Germany

She was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Letters from Smith College in Massachusetts in 1958 for her services to journalism.
