Biography

Edward Flanagan was born on July 13, 1886 in Leabeg, County Roscommon, Ireland. He is known for Die Stimme Österreichs (1949) and The City of Little Men (1938). He died on May 15, 1948 in Berlin, Germany.

Founder of Boys Town, which began in 1917 as Father Flanagan's Home for Boys in Omaha, Nebraska, as a haven for wayward, homeless, and neglected boys.

Pictured on a 4¢ US definitive postage stamp in the Great Americans series, issued 14 July 1986.

Depicted on the obverse of a 2017 USA $5 gold commemorative coin, one of three coins in the Boys Town Centennial Commemorative Coin Program.
