He acted in John Morley's play, "Pinocchio," at the Churchill Theatre in Bromley, Kent, England and at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Guildford, Surrey, England with Roy Kinnear, Su Pollard, Tim Swinton, and Ian Buford in the cast. Tudor Davies was director.
In 1988, he, along with his wife and one of their sons, was involved in a head-on car collision, near Paddock Wood in Kent. While they all survived Neil received serious head injuries resulting in permanent brain damage leading to amnesia and the ending of his acting career.
